Arani – A Tribute to a Legacy of Music
Arani was established in the year 2001 as a heartfelt tribute to my late father, Pt. Indranil Bhattacharya, a distinguished sitar maestro and an eminent exponent of the revered Maihar Gharana. His sudden and untimely passing left a profound void not only in our family but also within the entire Indian classical music fraternity. His unmatched artistry, depth of expression, and unwavering dedication to the sitar had touched the lives of countless students, connoisseurs, and fellow musicians alike.
In the wake of this immense loss, there arose a deep and compelling need to honor his memory and continue the musical journey he had so passionately embraced. Thus, Arani was born—not merely as an organization, but as a living homage to his life and legacy. It was conceived with the vision of nurturing and promoting the timeless traditions of Hindustani Classical Music and Dance, with a special emphasis on the values and aesthetics of the Maihar Gharana.
Through Arani, we seek to preserve, propagate, and pass on this rich cultural heritage to future generations. By fostering a space where learning, performance, and appreciation can flourish, Arani stands as a beacon for all those who wish to immerse themselves in the profound beauty and discipline of Indian classical art forms.
